Mermaid Leather produces unique, aesthetically appealing and strong fish and shark leather.

Established in 1989 in the pristine coastal Golden Outback town of Esperance, Western Australia, two local fishermen saw a need to recycle skins from the fish processing food industry. This environmentally friendly philosophy and sustainable outlook is the anchor behind Mermaid’s family run business that prides itself on its exclusive handcrafted fish leather.

Visitors to Esperance can enjoy a relaxed visit to our studio enhanced by a multimedia presentation to discover the exciting process of tanning wild caught Barramundi, Snapper, Groper and Shark.
Our Mermaid Leather studio showcases quality handbags, wallets and leather accessories made under contract by Australian designers. We also produce a range of affordable fish leather gifts and souvenirs in our studio workshop. We welcome all Australian and International wholesale enquiries for our fish and shark leather products, offering exclusivity for select customers.

Your tour includes the following:
15 min DVD presentation explaining the four week process of manufacturing fish leather, 15 minute personal Q & A session, handling of various types of leathers, a gift bag which includes a souvenir fridge magnet, small sample of leather with I.D. , 3 x information sheets, a small bag of fish scales (with information), small bag of leather “flock” and piece of handmade fish leather paper (with information).
Our facility is wheelchair accessible.
Our facility has a single toilet access only.
Booking times are flexible, however, for the best experience for your group it would be preferable to book BEFORE 2 pm as we are open to the general public between 2 pm and 5 pm.
All crew/guides/drivers and children under 12 are included FOC
Booking/Cancellation policy, all pre booked tours must be booked a minimum of 7 days in advance, all cancellations must be advised a minimum of 7 days before arrival and there is no Cancellation fee.
