Portland Cable Trams Inc. provides tram rides over 3.7 kilometres of track with the round trip being of 7.4 kilometres and use Tram Sets comprising of a Grip Car built to the exact specifications of those from the Melbourne Cable Tram Era of 1885 – 1940 and original Saloon Cars that actually ran on the Melbourne system from that era and have been restored to their former glory by the volunteers. The tram passes beautiful Portland Harbour along the route and provides majestic views of the coast line. Additionally, there is a Rail Model Display, Museum, Extensive Gem Stone Collection and Theatrette provided for our passengers enjoyment. The organisation was established in 1996 and is a community owned, not for profit tourist operation and has been providing tram rides since March 2002. “On Board” commentary is provided by the conductor throughout the duration of the trip. The tram ride provides an authentic and unique experience with a strongly influenced Heritage and History flavour.
