ST CLAIR VILLA MUSEUM AND ARCHIVES
Open: Thursday to Sunday 10am-4pm. Group tours can be arranged by appointment on other days. Admission: $3 per head for group bookings. Valid to: 31/3/18 St Clair Villa was built by James Sinclair, a builder, contractor and architect, between 1843 and 1849 in Goulburn. It is a unique example of an early provincial villa of the late Georgian period of a classical design. In 1970 the Goulburn City Council purchased the house, coinciding with the Goulburn and District Historical Society being instrumental in saving St Clair from demolition. Today it is one of the oldest remaining houses in Goulburn, on the National Trust of Australia register and Register of the National Estate. It houses important local archives and museum collections including textiles, domestic items, photographs, newspapers and diaries from early pioneer families of Goulburn and surrounding districts.
