CHIFLEY HOME – The home of Prime Minister Ben Chifley

Chifley Home was the only marital home of Prime Minister Ben Chifley and his wife Elizabeth. The house reveals the domestic life of a man who rose from humble beginnings, as an engine driver on the railways, to the nation’s most important political office, held during the critical period of post-World War II.

Today, the house contains a fascinating collection of original furnishings and the personal effects of Ben and Elizabeth Chifley, together with ceremonial gifts presented to Ben while he was in government.

The Chifley Home Education Centre, next door, hosts an audio-visual display and exhibitions on the Chifleys, along with temporary displays that focus on various aspects of Australia’s social and political history.
