The Goulburn Historic Waterworks is the only complete, operational, steam powered municipal water supply left in its original location in the Southern Hemisphere. The site is listed on the State Heritage Register and the National Trust of Australia register. Step back in time to the 1880s when Goulburn was one of the first regional centres to supply piped drinking water to its residents. Built between 1883 and 1885, the Goulburn Historic Waterworks has remained intact with a pump house, fully operational Appleby Bros steam beam engine, and 1866 Hick Hargreaves Corliss valve engine- the only one of its kind in the world - in an idyllic location on the banks of the Wollondilly River.
