TAMWORTH POWERSTATION MUSEUM
In 1888 Tamworth became the first town in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere to install and use municipal, electric street lighting. The Tamworth PowerStation Museum celebrates this nationally significant story. Explore the history of electricity; behold the mighty John Fowler steam engines; delight over early cooking, cleaning and laundry appliances, and admire the impressive light bulb collection. Knowledgeable and dedicated volunteers provide guided tours of the museum to visitors. School and Group visits to the Museum are welcome and can be arranged for any day or time. Pre-booking is essential. Visit the Museum and be enlightened!
