PUFFING BILLY RAILWAY

Experience the magic of a day at Puffing Billy Railway. We invite you to meet some of the characters of the railway, have your photo taken with the driver, take in the majestic scenery of the Dandenong Ranges, feel the excitement as you cross historical timber trestle bridges, and delight in the sound of the whistle echoing through the hills. Located just one hour east of Melbourne, it makes for the perfect day out!

This century-old steam train continues to run on its original mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook. Built to serve at the turn of the century it is a genuine relic of our more leisurely days. The Railway is the major survivor of four experimental lines used to develop rural areas in the early 1900s. Puffing Billy Railway is now a major tourist attraction and operates every day except Christmas Day, thanks to the tireless efforts of more than 900 dedicated volunteers.

Why not start your journey at Lakeside Station and travel to Gembrook to spend a relaxing afternoon travelling through the stunning views of Wright Forest and rich open farm lands? Enjoy lunch in Gembrook, the small quaint town at the end of the Puffing Billy line, where you can buy a fresh pie or sausage roll from the local bakery or pack a picnic to bring with you on the day.

Alternatively, you can travel first class in the luxurious, fully enclosed dining carriages, on the daily Steam and Cuisine Luncheon. The Steam & Cuisine Luncheon train departs Belgrave Station daily (except Victorian Public Holidays) at 12.30pm and arrives at Lakeside Station located in Emerald Lake Park. Emerald Lake Park's attractions include leisurely walking trails, picturesque Emerald Lake, paddle boats and abundant bird life. You are welcome to step off the train whilst it sits at the station and have a look around. Enjoy a mouth-watering dessert, tea or coffee as the Steam & Cuisine Luncheon train starts its return journey back to Belgrave Station, arriving at 3.30pm.
